Calathea Rufibarba

The Calathea Rufibarba, often called the Furry Feather Calathea, is an exquisite and tactile houseplant celebrated for its unique texture and elegant movement. Unlike many Calatheas, the Rufibarba features long, slender, wavy-edged leaves that are a vibrant green on top and a rich, deep burgundy underneath. Its most distinctive feature is the covering of soft, velvet-like hairs (rufi-barba means “red beard”) that coat the stems and the undersides of the leaves, inviting touch. As part of the ‘prayer plant’ family, its leaves gracefully fold up at night and unfurl in the morning, making it a dynamic, living piece of décor that thrives in high humidity and medium, indirect light.
